He’s one of the biggest actors on the planet and one that frequently been associated with superhero roles in the past, but it seems Matthew McConaughey in happy to pass on the villain role in the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ sequel.
The reasons as to why he would pass on the opportunity to join one of the most anticipated sequels of 2017 is a mystery, especially considering some of the most loved and critically celebrated superhero characters are in fact evil – Loki, Heath Ledger’s Joker… You get the point.
One reason could perhaps stem from McConaughey’s desire to one day play a superhero in either a Marvel or DC Comics franchise – the Academy Award-winning actor has previously come close, having entered into negotiations for the role of Captain America before Chris Evans was eventually cast in the now record-breaking Marvel film franchise.
Despite McConaughey turning the yet undisclosed villain role down in the upcoming ‘GOTG 2‘, director James Gunn has confirmed that the role will be cast within the next two weeks, with surely a big star name set to the join the Marvel sequel.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 sees Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista all returns to their starring roles as they also prepare to enter the expansive Avengers universe for the soon-to-be epic blockbusters Avengers: Infinity War – parts 1 and 2.
